Professor Wade, who joined the faculty of Washington College in the fall of 2003, received her B.A. from Agnes Scott College in 1994, her M.A. from Georgia State University in 1996, and her Ph.D. from Boston University in 2003. She has traveled throughout Central America and the Caribbean. She has conducted field research in El Salvador throughout the past decade, and recently traveled to Nicaragua in summer 2009 to conduct research for a new project. She was an international electoral observer for the Tribunal Supremo Electoral in the 2000 legislative and municipal elections and 2009 presidential elections in El Salvador.
Professor Wade is a specialist in the international and comparative politics of Latin America. She is the co-author of Understanding Central America: Global Forces, Rebellion and Change (Westview Press, 2005) which addresses the role of domestic and global political and economic forces in shaping rebellion and regime change in the region. Her co-authored book A Revolução Salvadorenha (The Salvadoran Revolution) is as part of the Revolutions of the Twentieth Century Collection at São Paulo: Fundação Editora Da UNESP (2006). She is also the author of several publications on the FMLN, peacebuilding and post-war politics in El Salvador and Central America. Dr. Wade is currently working on a manuscript on the politics of peacebuilding in El Salvador and a co-authored book on Nicaraguan politics.
Prior to coming to Washington College, Dr. Wade taught courses at Boston University and Northeastern University. At Washington College she offers courses on Latin American politics, U.S - Latin American relations, comparative peace processes, revolutions and political violence, human rights and social justice, and the politics of development. She is the coordinator of Washington College's summer seminar in Cuba (on hiatus) and is the advisor to study abroad programs in Peru and Argentina. She is also the Editor-in-Chief of the Washington College International Studies Review, an undergraduate publication that features research from all fields of study with international themes.
