Dr. Van Wagenberg, who holds a Ph.D. in Art History as well as a Masters in Art History and Archaeology, both from the Vrije University in Amsterdam, in her native Netherlands, She worked as the research and exhibition assistant to the well-known Vermeer scholar Dr. Arthur K. Wheelock, Jr. She also worked on exhibitions at the Walters Art Museum in Baltimore as an expert in Dutch and Flemish painting of the Golden Age. She has published several scholarly articles, given lectures and (co-) written several books.
"Dr. V." as her students call her, developed several new courses in Art History in her seven years at Salisbury University, building the Art History program - among them Greek & Roman Art, Northern Renaissance and Dutch & Flemish Painting and American Illustration at Washington College in Chestertown. Her love for her profession extended beyond the college environment when she began organizing Art History study trips to Italy and Greece, for a combination of students and people from the community. Dr. V. also teaches Art History at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore and serves there as Gallery Director.
She is preparing a catalogue raisonne on the paintings of seventeenth-century painters Jan Baptist Weenix and his son Jan Weenix.
